His routine is disrupted when his squad is loaned out to another city and he is made the leader of a disparate group of new recruits. Long suspicious of Genesis Industries and their supposedly noble goals, his most recent efforts to investigate the company had been thwarted by his own chief of police. But although the presence of a skilled hacker on his new team presents an opportunity to resume it, a much more pressing matter soon demands his attention. A vampire's body winds up in the city morgue; a vampire that has been drained of blood and marked by what appear to be the claws of a giant bird.

Will is a cop whose job is to train night squad, teams of humans dedicated to eradicating the vampire population.I simply loved the world that Fisher has created. There is an interesting sort of cold-war dynamic presented where vampires move in the background almost like spies to "convert" key humans to further their cause. The hybrids, fierce but small in number, work just as furtively, masquerading as humans by the day, but taking wing at night to prey on the predators. The humans are caught in the middle trying to find ways to protect themselves from the vampires that are growing in numbers daily. Life goes on as normal, but with a plague on the horizon.
Lilly and Will are great dual protagonists that are both fiercely dedicated to their respective teams. The are drawn together by Will's investigation and despite their desire to keep their secrets they become fast friends. Then we have Hannah a woman who was turned against her will to become a vampire who is really just trying to get along the best she can in a world gone semi-mad.
The book is a bit wordy, preferring to provide character motivation and plot points through narration rather than action at times, but overall it didn't slow down the flow of the story for me. When the action comes it's great. The dialogue for the most part is real and engrossing. Looking forward to more from this writer.

I've already read the book three or four times, and I'll likely read it again and again. I love the characters, the plot, the world. Don't let the slow set up get you down. Blood Dawn is definitely worth your time. You'll fall in love with the characters as much as I did, I'm sure. The best part is the fact that the vampires in this book are classic. If you've been let down by the recent developments in vampire novels, then give this book a try. It's like coming home.

This was an exciting book with amazing new ideas and I can't wait to read the sequel! This new writer has an amazing talent and I plan to buy any new stories she can create!
